(ERI) Type of events covered
ICEYE's aim is to provide product coverage for the whole shake area of an earthquake as defined by the JMA in Japan, and the USGS in the USA.
While it is not possible to predict an earthquake's location or the affected area before the event, ICEYE is committed to providing coverage for the area experiencing shaking of intensity of at or over 6- on the Japan Meteorological Agency Seismic Intensity (Shindo) Scale in Japan, and the area experiencing shaking over magnitude 7 or greater on the MMI scale in California. In ICEYE's experience, this extent of coverage provides insight for a significant proportion of the earthquake-affected area and related tsunami damage. In the case of an extremely large event where prioritization may be required, it will be given to areas with the greatest population densities.
If there are clear reports of fire from news sources or direct customer reports following and resulting from the earthquake, ICEYE will also provide Fire Building Damage Assessment due to fire-related damage.
As a preparedness measure, ICEYE pre-images California and in-coverage areas of Japan on a monthly basis, to ensure the ability to respond to new earthquake events as they happen.
