(FI) Flood Insights methodology
ICEYE Flood Insights leverages a robust data fusion architecture to deliver comprehensive
information on observed flood events. Core to this architecture is ICEYE’s SAR satellite constellation, which provides high-resolution imagery of the Earth’s surface regardless
of weather conditions. This observational imagery serves as the foundation for flood detection and analysis.
Data fusion for richer observational data
ICEYE Flood Insights goes beyond just satellite imagery. It incorporates real-time data from various sources to enrich the observational dataset, including:
River Gauges
Provides water level measurements to identify potential flooding based on historical trends and thresholds, further strengthening the observational picture.
Social media and news reports
Crowdsourced information from these sources can offer valuable insights into the observed unfolding situation.
From observations to actionable insights
The combined data, rich with observational details, undergoes multi-source analysis. This advanced processing extracts key flood characteristics such as extent and depth based on the observed data. This information is then delivered through two key components:
Flood events reporting
Provides users with updates on observed flood events that ICEYE is expecting, actively
monitoring or analyzing.
Data layers
Offer detailed geospatial data of the observed flood extent and depth providing crucial
information for informed decision-making based on the observed conditions.
