(WF) Geographic Coverage
Geographic coverage
ICEYE’s Wildfire Insights product supports events impacting at-risk populations in the following geographies:
• United States: Coverage of the contiguous United States, Hawaii, and Alaska.
• Australia: Coverage of regions across all states and territories.
• Canada: Coverage of all states across Canada.
The availability of the product is driven by customer demand and ICEYE’s understanding of wildfire characteristics within those areas. ICEYE’s team works continuously on expanding geographic coverage, with European countries planned for future expansion.
Wildfire event coverage
ICEYE has established a daily workflow where wildfire targeting experts, meteorologists, and wildfire analysts monitor and review active events. Based on ICEYE’s experience, expertise, and statistical analysis of past fire seasons, ICEYE defines a set of predefined criteria - referred to as “thresholds” - that must be satisfied to initiate an analysis. Once met, the respective event enters the analysis phase. Where multiple wildfire events occur in the same region
simultaneously, ICEYE will endeavour to analyse all qualifying events. In cases where this is not possible, priority will be given to the event with the highest number of buildings within the perimeter. In the case of prescribed fires (planned burns used to meet land management objectives), ICEYE will not provide an analysis as no structural damage is expected.
“Prescribed fire” is the terminology used in the United States. In Australia the following equivalent terms are also used: ‘Burn off’, ‘Hazard Reduction Burn’, ‘Planned Burn’, ‘Prescribed Burn’.
